Friday, March 14th, 2008

Learn about some methodologies on how to expose your business online through internet marketing and this explains about search engine optimization making your website on top of search engines through best contents, keywords, links and other marketing strategies.

Website Content Still a Top Requirement

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Even until now, one of the main concerns of internet marketers managing websites is putting their sites on top of the search results page. Through SEO and marketing, this can be done. But even as tactics change and strategies bend with the market trends, one thing hasn’t changed and that is the steel importance of the website content.

Website Content

Quality content is still a top requirement for a great website. Remember that the online community’s main purpose of surfing the Web is to garner information and data. Having great and unique content will help you get visitors and get you to rank better within the search engines.

Research: It is sometimes difficult to come with new ideas to create a great content. This blockage can be opened with research. You should first determine what your content will be all about. Then search for data and information on your topic. Do not forget to include related terms and a couple of popular search phrases in your content (phrases like “How to” or “Top 10”). These terms and search phrases can help attract the search engines and search sites when they crawl the Web for content like yours.

Using Images, Graphics, and Videos: Visual content is also a popular trend among the users. They will like your site better if it has images, graphics, and videos to entertain them. When your site is all text and words, it might seem boring and sometimes intimidating. Another reason to use images, graphics, and videos is because they can also make it easier for your readers or viewers to understand your content and website.

Deliver What’s Needed: Make it easy for the users to get what they need on your content. Think about the most important things they want to know first hand from your website. Don’t make them scourge around your website over and over because they’re trying to search for something they cannot easily find in your content. If you have additional information and content that cannot be inserted in your site content anymore, you can always link out to other sites and resources.

Get Them Involved: As much as possible, make your content encouraging and inviting. Give them the opportunity to say what they want and make comments. This will give great value and interaction to your website.

SEO: Do not neglect optimizing your site and content, of course. Your content won’t be read if it isn’t exposed. To be exposed in the ever competitive search engines, you need SEO. The main component that your website content needs to have is the keyword or keyword phrase.

Make Your Content “Linkable”: Link building is a great search engine optimization strategy. To make your content “linkable” to the users and other sites, always deliver fresh and unique content. Make it as entertaining as possible. This is why good content ideas are very important. Quality website content is still, and most probably will always be, king.

SEO For Writing Online

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

It is correct to assume that people go online to search for information and read content. This is what the majority really do when going online. The internet has become a haven for people who seek information and ideas. This would naturally bring about challenges for online writers. While writing online may seem simple, getting the articles and posts to be read by the online community is not. That is why there are certain SEO techniques being observed in writing online.

SEO is important for online writers as it is important to internet marketers and site owners. Content, posts, and articles have to be exposed, after all, to be read by the users. Online writers, and publishers, need to position themselves in the Web in a way that would deliver their information to the online community in just a matter of clicks. Therefore, in writing online, it is important to keep up with what’s new on SEO and the online community.

  • The basic rules of writing sticks. The article or post should stay true tot he topic at hand. Correct punctuation and grammar are a must. Many get annoyed at reading incorrect sentence structures and word usage.
  • As much as possible, the content should be rich with information. Information is what the users are looking for, after all. The more useful the content, the better. Unique and great content is also helpful in optimizing the Web page in the search engines.
  • When writing online, putting in keywords in the content is critical. They have to be creatively integrated in the structure to be read by crawlers. Strategically, they can be put on the top and bottom of the content or post to gain more exposure to the search engine crawlers.
  • One should also identify what keyword or keyword to focus on. There are softwares available online to determine which keyword or phrases are most used by the online users when using the search engines. The keywords should be relevant to the topic of the content and they should be made prominent all throughout.
  • Writing Online

In online writing, content is king. The article must be well written and rich with information. Otherwise, it would only be useless to brand the article or post and spread it online. The main point of SEO, after all, is to get uses and visitors into the site and gain their attachment to the site. Making bad content will do the opposite.

Online Headlines: Direct Rather Than Creative

    Friday, February 15th, 2008

The one thing that is different between the newspapers, magazine, and publications offline and the press releases, posts, and articles online is the headline of the publication. With offline publications, you can get readers and subscribers by making titles and headlines that would capture a person’s attention — sometimes to the point wherein the title uses figurative means and sounds far from the story. Online headlines, however, tend to be direct to the point rather than creative. You have to stick to the keyword or keyword phrase of the post.

    Online Newspaper Headline

With offline publications, writer use creative phrases, clever puns, and baffling titles to get the reader to scan and read their articles. This is not the way the Web works, however. In the internet, in order for your article, post, or press release to be noticed and read, you have to get it up to the top search results of the search engines. This would naturally require search engine optimization.

Herein comes the problem with online headlines. Search engine optimization requires the optimum use of the article or page’s keyword or keyword phrase. The headline or title will have to be based on the keyword or phrase to gain some standing in the search results. Being in the top search results will give more exposure to the article or post, and that is what counts on the Web in order to capture readers and subscribers. “Clever” and “imaginative” headlines won’t fare well online unless it has the keyword or phrase on it.

We see here now the difference between a writer for print papers and a writer online. Offline writer can get away with many words in their articles and headlines, but the online writer has to stick to the keyword or phrase.

The evolution unto the Information and Digital Age can be considered a little confusion for the offline writers. Offline writers have made articles that are considered great offline. But when you key it in the Web, it would not be considered top ranking by the search engines unless it has the keyword or phrase. But as the internet is fast becoming a big part of the people’s everyday lives, even offline writers will have to make an impact on the Web.

Many people would consider that going online would be like the deterioration of great headlines. Puns, figures of speech, and other clever lines that are loved by readers is rarely used online. But then, creatively speaking, online headlines don’t have to be too technical. It has to be direct and to the point of the keyword or phrase. But there is that creativity spark that can sometimes combine technicalities with the figurative language. News websites and other publications will have to try harder to capture the attention of the readers online.

Content: This is still a big factor for websites. Whether or not it is searched on Google, Yahoo!, Baidu, or other engines, unique and crawlable content is still a dominant factor. Text and tags are still great points to focus on, while Flash and AJAX remain not too friendly on the search engines.

Keywords: Having keywords on the pages and content also remains to be relevant. Make sure, though, that you do a market research on each different place you’re in. There are places wherein they use another term for something your original market is using. For example, some countries may use “softdrink” while other countries prefer the word “soda.” It’s a matter of knowing which keyword is more appropriate to use in a specific market.

Social Sites and Link Building: Links are still needed. That is a fact that will not change for the search engines in general. However, in link building on a global scale, it is important to determine which domains are popular in each specific place and adhere to it. Optimizing through the most used and popular social sites in a specific place can help gain popularity for your site or business among that local market.

    Global Partnership

    Diplomatic Relations

When dealing with the global market, there will be some changes in the way you market your company. This is because specific markets will have their own distinct characteristics and you will have to bend and develop new strategies to implement your business.

This is better achieved through diplomatic relations and building a great partnership with each market. Working with the locals of a country will enable you to foster a great working relationship with the people and understand how to market to them effectively. Having global partners can help in overcoming language and communication barriers and assist in making more effective marketing campaigns.

    Eliminating Bad Press With SEO

    Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Bad or negative press doesn’t only happen in the newspapers or on TV. In this digital age, companies and businesses also experience bad publicity online. And as most bad press go, they undermine whatever positive authority the company or business has and can even make it on top of the SERPs!

    Bad Publicity Online

When faced with this problem, what does an internet marketer have to do to retain a good image of the company or business?

    There are two ways:

    1. Focus on keywords that bring positive images to your website and company.

We all know the power of keywords. When bad press is associated with a keyword or keyword phrase you’ve been using, you’ll want to stop optimizing on those keywords. But people will most likely type in your brand name or company name as a keyword or keyword phrase to search with. It would be a good idea to optimize on this keyword or keyword phrase and drive in brand-friendly hits. In focusing on your brand name or company name as your keyword or keyword phrase, you’ll be optimizing on the product or service that you are meant to optimize, and as you build on the good image of your website or company with this you are pushing the negative press down the search results.

Create more good press and positive reviews using keyword or keyword phrase you have opted to use. Press release come in handy in these times too.

    2. Link building

The bad or negative press is usually pushed to the top because of link building. The online community can spread rumors and links throughout the Web and this would boost the link’s ranking in the search engines. As a counterattack, why not do the same with your positive press? It would be an SEO battle between the bad press and the good press.

Using SEO against SEO, this could only mean that you employ better SEO techniques than what the bad press is based on. In optimizing your positive press through link building, make sure that your content is constantly updated and fresh.

You can also go to the sources of the bad press and make a request that they include rebuttal links. This will result to an additional link from their website to yours, which helps with link building and more exposure to the users who come upon that website.

    Bad Publicity Example

We can see that SEO can be very influential in terms of the publicity given to companies and websites. A company’s reputation and image can either be pulled up or put down by SEO.

Basic HTML Guidelines For Good SEO

    Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Other than the site content and link quality, search engine crawlers also look into the HTML of a site. When it comes to the structure, the engines like the sites search-friendly. Now most of us don’t really like dealing with HTML. But it will help improve the development of your site. It certainly can’t hurt to learn at least the basic HTML guidelines for SEO. With this, there are certain things to be done and certain things to avoid.

    HTML Code For Better SEO

    1. Look over your page and check that at it a well-formed HTML or XHTML page. By well-formed, we mean that it meets the W3C standards. You can use the W3C validator tool or the SEO Worker validator for this.

    2. Control the size of your page, not too small nor to big (not less than 5K nor more than 15K).

    3. Check the page loading time of each page. Make sure that important ones (if not all) load fast. Restrict the loading time to a maximum of 8 seconds.

    4. Don’t stuff a page with several links. Keep it to less than a hundred.

    5. Keywords are still key. Use your keyword or keyword phrase in the site navigation structure.

    6. Don’t forget the title tag! It’s one of the most important SEO techniques. Your title tag for each page should be composed of the strongest keyword or keyword phrase that best describes the page. As much as possible, choose keywords or phrases that should be a part of the page title.

    7. Meta tags are also important for better SEO. The Author Meta Tag can help in getting your name or the name of your company in the top spot of search results.

The Description Meta Tag is used to describe the page; it doesn’t really do much to improve the page ranking.

The Keywords Meta Tag can help the search engines in organizing the page and site so that a visitor can easily find it. There are search engines that put a limit to the number of keywords that meta tags allow, so the use of quality keywords or keyword phrases is encouraged.

Robots Meta Tags is used to indicate to the robots visiting the page if it can be indexed. Not all robots follow this anymore though.

    8. The heading tag also contributes to better SEO when relevant keywords or keyword phrases are used. As much as possible, keep the usage of the h1 tag to one per page.

    9. In using ALT tags, it better not to use it too much because your site could drop from the search results. This tag is better used when linking to an image.

    10. In using images, be careful to add the keyword or keyword phrase as part of the image filename. If this is not possible, then put the keywords outside the images or within the ALT tags.

    11. Use keywords or keyword phrases as anchor text when linking, especially when linking your page internally.

    12. Links that are related to your page or site are rated higher by the search engines. So choose only relevant links to have a positive impact on the search engines.

    13. Adding bookmarking icons on your page can help with generating traffic on your page or site. Users and visitors will be able to bookmark your pages and spread word across the Web because of these icons.

    14. Selected keywords or keyword phrases should be used throughout the page. It specifically should be in the first few sentences and in the last one, in the title tag, in the heading tag, and once in bold text.

    15. It is better to have your links and primary content near or at the center of the page, as this will be more relevant than having them at the corner of the page.

    Three General Steps In SEO

    Friday, January 11th, 2008

When looking at search engine optimization in a general perspective, only three steps are involved. Three. Easy. Steps.

    1. Keyword Search

    keyword research tool

When optimizing your site in the search engines, it is the keyword that is the most important factor. Do a research on the keyword or keyword phrase that your target market might type in to look for the product or service that you offer.

You can brainstorm on the keywords that you would like to try. Keep in mind to include important descriptions like geographical locations or other specifications if it’s important for the customer. For example, when offering realtor services in Michigan, you can enter a keyword phrase like “Michigan real estate.”

You can also look into keyword search tools online like Keyword Elite and Google Trends to look for the best keyword or keyword phrase. (see Keywords)

Make it a point to surf around the internet and looking out for the keywords that your competitors use, too. Take note that the primary keywords that you will eventually choose will most likely be very popular and are hard to have a high ranking with. It would be up to the next two steps whether you’ll achieve that high ranking or not.

    2. Site Content

    site content

The content of your website comes next in importance after the keyword. You should create a content that is not only unique and simple for the users to understand but is also filled with your keyword or keyword phrase in key locations. This is so that the search engines can crawl your site better and understand the relevance of your site.

You can have the keyword or keyword phrase placed in the headings, or at the top and bottom of the pages. You can have it in bold or italics or as an anchor text, and place it in every page of your site.

After strategically deciding on where to put the keyword or keyword phrase, you can make additional content and offer more details on the products and/or services that you are offering. Don’t forget to ask for their feedback and encourage your customers to share any inquiries and questions with you. These might raise more ideas for additional content and offer more interaction with your customers and visitors.

Do not rely too much on images and flash; they may add more life to your webiste but search engines cannot really read them as well as words and text.

    3. Link Building

    link building

You already know the important of link popularity. Take it as a vote for your site every time another site links to your site. It can give it more exposure and more traffic.

The quality of the links is vital, of course. It is much more important to have relevant sites link to you. When you do link exchanges, make sure that you are linking with a site that is relevant to your niche and, as much as possible, has a high ranking. Even just a few quality links with authority can have more value and several sites with low ranking and less quality.

Link exchange is not the only method of link building, of course. You can do article submissions, submit your site to directories, and promote your site on social networks. Just keep in mind to maintain the quality that you need and not settle for less.
