Avoiding

It’s not unusual for a person to make mistakes in SEO and promoting his or her site. With the growing competition and many online consultations given, anybody can slip and make a mistake.

So what are the common SEO mistakes that online marketers can be prone to? Matt McGee of Marchex Inc. has cited the following in his article Common SEO Mistakes - And How To Avoid Them:

Poor crawlability: Search engines can’t rank a page they can’t crawl.

Ignoring keyword research: Poor keyword research will derail nearly everything else you do to optimize your site.

Poor page titles: The page title or “title tag” is the most important on-page SEO factor.

Poor content: A page can’t rank for “green widgets” if the search engine can’t figure out the page is about green widgets.

Unnatural link building: Quality is more important than quantity with link building. Many Web masters try unusual tactics to increase link quantity, including reciprocal link trades, three-way trades and “link farms.”

These mistakes can still be remedied, of course. Encourage crawlability to your site by not using complicated JavaScript and DHTML navigation. Flash is not recommended for your links or content. Keep everything as simple as possible.

Create a great and unique content for your site. Make use of your keywords. Take note of using the primary keyword at the beginning. You can put your company’s name at the end.

Always think of quality first before quantity. Quality content and quality links are what search engines like. Stay away from linking with poor sites and stick to the relevant sites.
